If you don't wear yours like war paint, baby oil while your skin is wet and then strong lotion (the kind for psoriasis) helps fade the color. They'll NEVER go away, don't believe anyone who tells you that, but they can fade and turn white. If you have dark skin, they still turn white, and makeup can cover them v_v but I don't have tips for keeping them darker.
